Educators looking to add hands-on environmental science to their curriculum will have an opportunity to learn about Arkansas’ Stream Team program next month at the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center.
The Stream Team Professional Development Workshop will be held Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center. The workshop is free, and professional development credit is available.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a Stream Team Professional Development Workshop Tuesday, Sept. 22, designed for teachers, homeschool educators, private school educators and others involved in nontraditional education.
Heather Pitman, facility manager at the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center, says Stream Team gives students a chance to study the health of local waterways through hands-on testing.

Participants will learn how to monitor water quality as students are lead through stream studies. Testing can include chemical levels, oxygen, temperature and more that help indicate the health of a stream.

The professional development workshop will focus on teaching educators how to implement Stream Team activities with their own groups and students. Professional development credit is available.
