Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School eighth grade and freshman students recently concluded their participation in the Chief Science Officer Program with a year-end celebration on May 29. Students gathered at NEIU 19 to showcase the initiatives and activities they led throughout the school year to strengthen and enrich the district’s STEM culture.
Following their presentations, students visited the Electric City Aquarium in Scranton, where they received a behind-the-scenes look at how science, technology, engineering and mathematics play a vital role in daily aquarium operations.
Carbondale Area is the only school in the NEIU 19 to participate in the CSO Program. The Chief Science Officer Program is an international student leadership initiative that empowers young leaders to promote STEM education, raise awareness of STEM careers and strengthen STEM opportunities within their schools and communities.
