The 2016 ISSM Workshop took place at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego), in La Jolla, California, USA. June 21st to 23rd.
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography, in collaboration with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and University of California at Irvine hosted the 2016 Ice Sheet System Model (ISSM) Workshop. The workshop took place at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus for three days, June 21st-23rd. It was sponsored by Pr Helen Fricker who graciously offered to host the workshop.
Interactive sessions were offered for beginners/advanced users and developers interested in learning how to use ISSM. Updates to ISSM since the 2014 Workshop, including user-requested features were presented. Specific focus was put on tutorials that allow users to make use of altimetry data, and simulate the evolution of surface topography on ice shelves or over grounded ice. Data assimilation was also at the core of several tutorials, relying on the use of inverse methods in particular. Participants were invited to showcase their work during an open poster session, and science talks were organized around relevant topics.
For this year’s workshop, we were asking participants to bring there own laptops, and if possible to install ISSM (we now have binaries that can be downloaded directly) before arriving to the workshop. In case this was not feasible, a small number of laptops were made available on site.
We hope the workshop generated fruitful interactions between our team, the growing community of ISSM users, and the broader cryosphere community.
The workshop took place at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus, in La Jolla, California, USA. Meetings were held in the Ted Scripps Room at the Scripps Seaside Forum, June 21-23, from 9AM to 5 PM
