Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced a new program this week that will recognize STEM programs and events across the state that meet certain standards for education and student engagement.
The Alabama STEM Council Seal of Approval is a partnership between the Alabama STEM Council, Alabama Department of Workforce and governor’s office.
The program will recognize out-of-school STEM programs and recurring events that demonstrate positive outcomes, consistent implementation and STEM education practices.
“Alabama’s continued success depends on preparing our young people with the skills and experiences they need to pursue the opportunities of tomorrow,” Ivey said. “The STEM Seal of Approval will help Alabama families identify outstanding programs while recognizing the organizations inspiring students to explore, learn and build bright futures right here in our state.”
Eligible programs must have operated in Alabama for at least three years. After-school programs, community-based initiatives, nonprofit programs and summer programs are among those eligible to apply.
Applications opened Sept. 28. Recipients will be selected following a review process and announced at a later date.
