LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Renowned science educator and television personality Bill Nye was officially welcomed to southern Nevada with top honors on Monday, receiving the Key to the Las Vegas Strip alongside a county proclamation designating September 28 as “Bill Nye Day.”
The presentation took place at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), recognizing Nye’s decades of work advocating science education, climate solutions, and space exploration.
Nye, an engineer, bestselling author, and multiple Emmy Award winner, rose to global fame as the creator and host of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

The ceremony coincided with his appearance as part of UNLV’s Barrick Lecture Series, where he addressed students and community members on how science can shape a better future, event officials say.
The series continues on Tuesday with an encore presentation inside Ham Hall due to an overwhelming response, UNLV officials say. The event is free but advance tickets are required.
