The Buffalo Museum of Science opened the $3M Science Stadium interactive, a “permanent exhibit that focuses on” the Bills, Sabres and Bandits and “brings the science and engineering behind professional sports to life,” according to Michael Petro of the BUFFALO NEWS. That includes the science behind building the Bills’ new $2.2B stadium. Part of the exhibit that has “been years in the making is a detailed scaled stadium model that was in the New Stadium Experience Center.” The Buffalo Museum of Science President and CEO Gary Siddall said, “It’s so much better because of the involvement of the Bills, Sabres and Bandits.” Petro wrote the exhibit “combines STEM learning with something that’s exciting and relatable for Buffalo’s many sports fans.” It has “Buffalo-specific elements” incorporated into “educational initiatives that focus on science, technology, engineering and math.” The project came together in partnership with all three teams, as well as Empire State Development, which gave $750,000 to help fund the project at the Humboldt Parkway museum. The Bills, Sabres and Bandits provided “use of team branding, as well as photos and videos.” The project “will feature three thematic zones, each anchored by one of the teams.” The state of New York said that it “supported the project to help boost regional tourism and drive the revitalization of Buffalo’s East Side.” Additional funding came through state support, including a $550,000 capital grant from the Western N.Y. Regional Economic Development Council, over $536,000 from the N.Y. Power Authority in Western N.Y. Power Proceeds, and $375,000 secured by State Sen. April Baskin (BUFFALO NEWS, 9/27).
