More than 300 people came out on Saturday, July 25 to welcome Carmen Schools of Science & Technology Northwest to the Harambee neighborhood.
The free block party attracted community leaders, neighbors, students, families, and alumni to the school’s new campus at 3215 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Carmen Northwest Principal Ashlei Miller cut a red ribbon to officially open the school. Also speaking at the event were Carmen Schools CEO Aaron Lippman and Taureen Hamilton, a rising senior who started at Carmen as a sixth grader.
“This building represents possibility,” said Miller. “Our students deserve a school where they feel inspired, challenged, and supported every day. We are excited to showcase a space where learning, belonging, and leadership will continue to flourish. This investment benefits our students and the future of the entire neighborhood.”
The new campus provides an enhanced learning environment designed to support student achievement while strengthening relationships with families and neighborhood partners. The school has upgraded science laboratories, a larger gymnasium and a brand redesign that was decided by students, alumni, teachers and community members. The rebranding features an eagle as the school’s new mascot that can be found throughout the school, including on a mural painted on the back of the school.
Guests enjoyed an afternoon of family-friendly activities, partial school tours, food served by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, entertainment, and opportunities to connect with the Carmen Northwest community.
School orientation begins on August 17 with the first day of school on Aug. 20. Students and parents who want to learn more about Carmen Northwest Middle and High School should contact the school at (414) 837-4000, email admissions@carmenhighschool.org or go to https://carmenschools.org/family-portal-carmen-schools/prospective-families.
