Central Middle School in Edgewater has earned national recognition for its STEM magnet program, receiving Nationally Certified Demonstration School status from Magnet Schools of America.
The honor recognizes some of the nation’s top magnet schools and highlights programs that offer innovative curriculum, strong instruction, academic excellence, family engagement, and a commitment to choice, equity, and diversity.
Central Middle School, home of the Cobras, is one of three STEM middle schools in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The school’s STEM magnet program has been recognized for meeting Magnet Schools of America’s National Magnet School Standards of Excellence.
“This is just an awesome honor for everyone who has helped build the amazing STEM program that exists at our school,” Principal Melissa Pfisterer said. “An accomplishment like this does not happen without incredible students, talented and dedicated staff, supportive families, and a school system that is relentless in its pursuit of excellence. We are incredibly fortunate to have all of those partners working together to support our students and the STEM program here at Central Middle School.”
Magnet Schools of America’s certification process is based on five pillars: diversity, innovative curriculum and professional development, academic excellence, high-quality instructional systems, and family and community partnerships.
The Nationally Certified Demonstration School designation is intended for exemplary magnet schools and helps spotlight programs that can serve as models for others across the country.
The recognition places Central Middle School’s STEM program among nationally recognized magnet programs while underscoring the role of students, teachers, families, and Anne Arundel County Public Schools in building the program.
The Edgewater school’s STEM focus is designed to prepare students through hands-on learning, problem-solving, and academic experiences connected to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
