WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher brought hands-on science to shoppers at Independence Mall for its annual “Femme in STEM” event.
Exhibitors from UNCW, local colleges and WECT’s First Alert Weather Team offered interactive experiments to spark curiosity.
Organizers said the goal is to break barriers in male-dominated fields and inspire young girls to pursue careers in science and conservation.
“We want to come out and have kids explore some STEM fields, get them hooked while they’re young, so that they will then grow up to want to, like, join us in fields of science, math, arts,” said Tabitha Elger, with North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
