In Mr. Bullock’s eighth-grade science class, students recently put their analytical skills to work through a hands- on density laboratory experiment. Using a variety of common liquids, including oil, rubbing alcohol, dish soap, and maple syrup, the class began by predicting how these substances would settle when combined. To test their hypotheses, students precisely measured 50 milliliters of each liquid and calculated its density to determine the correct stacking order.

This hands- on lesson helped our students visualize how substances layer by mass and volume, reinforcing foundational concepts surrounding physical properties while connecting these ideas to the layered composition of the Earth’s interior.
