As a proud Southern University alumnus and Louisiana legislator, I was encouraged to see the continued success of Southern University’s STEM summer camp and its commitment to preparing students for the opportunities of tomorrow. Programs that introduce young people to science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on learning are exactly the kind of investments that help build a stronger future for our state.
Partnerships among Southern University, ExxonMobil, educators and community leaders demonstrate what is possible when industry and higher education work together to invest in young people. The result is a stronger pipeline of future engineers, scientists, innovators and skilled professionals who will help drive Louisiana’s economy forward.
For Louisiana, initiatives like this matter. Our future depends on developing a workforce equipped to lead in energy, technology, manufacturing and other critical industries. By exposing students to STEM education and real-world applications early, we are helping them develop the skills, confidence and curiosity needed to succeed in high-demand careers.
As a Southern University alumnus, I know firsthand the difference educational opportunities can make. Southern has a long tradition of opening doors for students and helping them realize their potential. It is encouraging to see that tradition continue through programs that inspire young people to dream bigger, work harder and pursue careers that can make a lasting impact on our state.
REP. KEN BRASS
Louisiana state representative, District 98
