Parc Harold F. Baldwin, commonly known as Mont Pinacle, will hold a free biodiversity and citizen science activity on Saturday, July 18, offering participants an opportunity to learn how observations made by members of the public can support conservation work.
The activity will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning at the park’s trail reception area.
Jannick Champagne, identified by the park as a biologist, will lead participants along the trails and explain how citizen science can contribute to the protection of plant and wildlife species.
Participants will also learn about smartphone applications that can help people identify and document plants, animals and other features of the natural environment.
The activity itself is free, but advance reservations are required. Participants must also meet the park’s regular admission requirements.
Visitors aged 17 and older who live outside the MRC de Coaticook must purchase a $9.50 day ticket. Admission is free for visitors aged 16 and younger.
Residents of the MRC de Coaticook can enter free of charge but must carry proof of residence and sign the park’s visitor register.
Parc Harold F. Baldwin said all activities in its 2026 program will be offered free of charge with support from the Caisse Desjardins des Verts-Sommets de l’Estrie, the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund, Saint-François MNA Geneviève Hébert and Compton—Stanstead MP Marianne Dandurand.
The park is a 63-hectare regional conservation area owned by the City of Coaticook and managed by a non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors.
Its forested trail network is used for hiking, birdwatching and other nature-based activities. Outdoor rock climbing is also permitted in designated areas.
Mont Pinacle overlooks Lake Lyster, with its summit rising approximately 194 metres above the lake.
The park is located at 1891 May Road in Coaticook. Reservations for the July 18 activity can be made through the Parc Harold F. Baldwin website.
