MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The all-new Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation STEM Center in Orange Mound will offer kids early exposure to tech education.
The brand-new STEM facility held its ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at 2855 Park Avenue. It was built through a partnership between Red Zone Ministries, The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The facility will offer students hands-on access to tech and robotics tools.
Executive Director Howard Eddings says it’s more than a learning space; it’s somewhere kids can be excited to show up.
“I think any opportunity that provides young people with an opportunity to grow, be challenged, to learn will make them better prepared for the future,” Eddings said.
Eddings also says he hopes that exposure to new experiences will encourage children in Memphis to stay in the area and become interested in potential careers.
The Tennessee Valley Authority and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation have established more than 40 STEM Centers across the region, including several throughout Memphis.
