A $1,000 grant from the Southern Ohio Cleanup Company is helping bring Camp Invention to Pike County, giving local students access to hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities.
The funding supports the National Inventors Hall of Fame program, according to a community announcement. More than 1,500 Camp Invention programs are hosted annually across the United States to encourage creativity and foster interest in learning.
“It is rewarding to see young students light up when participating in hands-on STEM activities,” said SOCCo President and CEO Pat Timbes. “Camps like these help students develop creative problem-solving skills that lead to their future career path.”
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade attended the camp at the Ohio State University Endeavor Center. Educators from across Pike County led activities designed to provide hands-on STEM experiences for participants.
The announcement said Camp Invention was added to Pike County this year as part of SOCCo’s investment in STEM education.
Camp Invention is operated by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Additional information about the program is available at invent.org.
SOCCo said the grant was intended to help expand STEM learning opportunities for local students and introduce them to creative problem-solving experiences.
