PIKETON — Curiosity is a powerful emotion that can lead to a future career choice for students participating in the National Inventors Hall of Fame Camp Invention. As part of the Southern Ohio Cleanup Company’s (SOCCo) investment in the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, a $1,000 grant was awarded to bring the camp local.
More than 1,500 Camp Invention programs are hosted each year across the United States to enhance the creativity and ignite a love for learning. This year Camp Invention was added to Pike County.
“It is rewarding to see young students light up when participating in hands-on STEM activities,” said SOCCo President and CEO Pat Timbes. “Camps like these help students develop creative problem-solving skills that lead to their future career path.”

Students from kindergarten through sixth grade spent a week at the Ohio State University Endeavor Center with educators from across Pike County who provided hands-on STEM activities and enriching experiences.
