LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has received a $24.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.
It is the largest grant from the NIH in the university system’s history.
The grant funds a five-year effort to move health care from the laboratory to patients’ front doors.
Dr. Lance McMahon, Dr. Julie St. John and Dr. Naima Moustaid-Moussa are the principal investigators on the grant.
The grant allows researchers at TTUHSC to expand on what they have learned. Researchers have already conducted research to identify health priorities and develop solutions.
The grant money means the HSC will now be able to put those improvements into practice in the 121 county service areas reachable by any of the six Texas Tech campuses, with a special focus on medically underserved areas.
